Great Sky Featured in Cherokee Tribune

Santa Claus will visit the Great Sky community Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m., allowing children from the community a chance to take photos with him.

The festivities will include a visit with Santa Claus, holiday treats and crafts, hot cocoa, Christmas music, and a bonfire.

“This is an annual event where everything is usually done in-person, but we decided this year to change it up a bit,” Great Sky Lifestyle Director Heather Stafford said. “This is the first year that we will be making the event open to the public community outside of just Great Sky, as well as the first year where some of the event will be conducted via a drive-through at the clubhouse parking lot due to concerns with COVID-19.”

Stafford said the visit with Santa, weather permitting, will take place outside. If weather does not allow outside visits, then he will be inside the community clubhouse.

“Our other plan if the weather does not permit for Santa to be outside is to have people come in one entrance, with one of the members of the event standing by the door to monitor how many people are coming into the clubhouse at a time,” Stafford said. “People will come in, visit with Santa, then grab their hot cocoa and crafts and leave through a separate entrance. We do ask that when participants come into the clubhouse, that they wear a mask.”

Kids will have the opportunity to pick up holiday crafts at the event and complete them at the clubhouse, or they will have the opportunity to take them home and complete them there. Stafford added that, weather permitting, there will be a bonfire outside.

“Now more than ever, we want to provide opportunities for our residents at Great Sky to safely enjoy the holiday season,” Landeavor (Great Sky developer) Principal David Frame said. “This event offers the Canton community a chance to enjoy this holiday tradition in a safe and responsible manner.”
